On June 25, the 4th China-Europe Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The forum was jointly organized by the China Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute (EPPEI), which serves as the China-Europe Energy Innovation Cooperation (CEEI) Office, the EU Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Administrative Committee of Sichuan Tianfu New Area. He Yang, Vice Administrator of National Energy Administration of the People’s Republic of China(NEA), and Ren Jingdong, Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, attended the forum and delivered opening remarks. Hu Ming, President of EPPEI, chaired the opening ceremony, while Zhang Jian, Vice President of EPPEI, moderated the achievements release session.
He Yang noted that China and Europe are indispensable partners in the global energy transition. Since its establishment in 2020, the China-Europe Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Platform has organized more than 100 exchange activities across China and Europe, supported the implementation of more than 10 national key research and development projects, and facilitated the launch of more than 20 commercial cooperation projects. He said the Platform has become an effective international mechanism for connecting partners and accelerating collaborative innovation. Looking ahead, he called for closer policy dialogue, stronger information sharing, deeper collaboration between technology developers and industry, expanded local-level cooperation, and faster implementation of joint projects.
Ren Jingdong highlighted Sichuan's strengths as one of China's leading clean energy provinces and an important center for clean energy equipment manufacturing. He noted that China and Europe have already developed extensive and practical cooperation in Sichuan, producing a number of successful projects and cooperation models. He expressed Sichuan's willingness to further strengthen cooperation with European partners in emerging fields such as new types of energy storage, hydrogen energy, and smart energy technologies.
Hu Ming reviewed the progress achieved by the China-Europe Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Platform since the third forum, highlighting progress in institutional construction, technology delivery, project matchmaking, and the expansion of cooperation areas. He also shared his outlook for future cooperation in energy technology innovation, green electricity consumption, zero-carbon industrial parks, and green transformation of industrial and supply chains.
Throughout the forum, participants exchanged views on key topics including clean energy technology innovation, resilient industrial and supply chains, green electricity consumption, and international recognition of green electricity. The keynote reports also explored frontier technologies such as high-voltage direct current (HVDC) innovation and sustainable power system modeling and analysis, providing technical insights for building power systems capable of integrating higher shares of renewable energy.
The forum also released a series of major cooperation achievements, including the first 19 China-Europe Energy Cooperation Best Practice Cases, the RE100 Ready (China) Industrial Development Zone Initiative, the Green Power Supply Solutions Portfolio for Green Power (Zero-Carbon) Industrial Development Zones. These achievements are expected to promote green electricity consumption, facilitate greater international recognition of green electricity certification systems, reduce supply chain decarbonization costs, and better support companies in green procurement, carbon accounting, and low-carbon supply chain development.
Alongside the main forum, the event featured Country Days for the United Kingdom, Iceland, and Finland, as well as thematic sub-forums on hydrogen energy, smart energy, energy storage, wind power, and biomass energy. Technical visits were also organized for participants.
The forum provided an important platform for dialogue on energy technology innovation, helping advance project matchmaking and deepen practical cooperation between China and Europe in the clean energy sector. Participants included representatives from the European Union and 13 European countries, namely the United Kingdom, Finland, Iceland, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. More than 300 energy enterprises, industry associations, and research institutions from China and Europe attended the forum.
